3D Week 01 (Unreal Simple Box Level)

3D Week 001 Assignment

I learned the basics of UE4 and Maya in this assignment. I imported the FBX model from UE4 into Maya and I created a 10 x 10 x 10 cube. Maya follows metric units of centimetres and millimetres while UE4 works with centimetres. Before anything is done, it is extremely important to set up a scale immediately.

The character is about 6 feet tall so I established a scale by creating a 10 x 10 x 10 cube and transforming the 6 feet into 182 centimetres. It then became a 182 x 182 x 182 cube. I learned how to bevel the edges so the edges and corners were smoothed out.

I imported the cube into UE4's material editor and created a node tree. Here, I learned how to make it easier for me to adjust Metallic, Roughness, Specular, and Emissive effects for the surface of the cube.

I learned how to change the parameters and easily apply instances to the cube in order to achieve the desired color, texture, and light effect.

I made a mushroom structure!
